HACCP Certification has been awarded for the products ‘Rice, Curry & Spice Powders and Pickles’ of M/s. KKR Group of Companies processed at their Units at Okkal, Kalady in Ernakulam.

Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Kerala has formally awarded the HACCP Certificate of ‘Rice’ to Shri. KK Karnan, Chairman, KKR Group (Nirapara) at a function held at the chamber of Chief Minister, Government Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram on 12/07/2006 at 12.00 Noon. The HACCP Certificate for ‘Curry Powders & Pickles’ was awarded by Shri. Elamaram Kareem, Hon. Minister for Industries to the Chairman of KKR Group. Shri. T. Balakrishan IAS, Principal Secretary (Industries); Shri. V. Rajagopal, General Manager, K-BIP, Dr. N. Anandavally, Consultant in HACCP; Shri. Suraj S., Nodal Officer, NCHC and Shri. Gopalakrishnan, CEO, KKR Group was also present at the function.

Awareness Workshop on Food Safety & HACCP, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu

To propagate the concept of International Food Safety (HACCP) System and the activities & services of NCHC, an Awareness Workshop on Food Safety & HACCP was organised by NCHC at Hotel Rathna Regent, Coimbatore on 30th May 2006. The Workshop was organised in association with Small Industries Service Institute (SISI) and National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC).
The Workshop was inaugurated by Mr. T.O. Sooraj IAS, Director of Industries & Commerce, Government of Kerala. Mr. S. Sivagnanam, Director, SISI, Chennai has delivered the Key Note Address. Technical Presentations on ‘Food Safety & HACCP’ was made during the Workshop by Dr. N. Anandavally, Consultant in HACCP and ‘Importance of Pest Control on Food Processing Industry’ by Dr. Reena Anil Kumar, Consultant. Lot of Industrialists from in and around Coimbatore, Representatives from Industrial Associations, Government/Non Government Officials etc. participated in the Workshop.

Advanced Training Programme on HACCP System

To improve the capacity building of Auditors of NCHC to develop their skills in verification and implementation of HACCP System, an Advanced Training Programme for the Auditors of NCHC was organised by NCHC at Hotel Residency Tower, Thiruvananthapuram from 24th to 26th May 2006. The Training Programme was inaugurated by Mr. T. Balakrishnan IAS, Principal Secretary (Industries & Commerce), Government of Kerala.

The Training was based on the curriculum based on Food & Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (UN-FAO) and under Codex Principles of food hygiene & application of HACCP. During the Training, mock audits were conducted in the class room to have a practical approach which were really beneficial to all the trainees. The trainees were also given hands on experience with specific industry so that they actually undergo field experience of HACCP Procedures. The three day programme went on well with active participation and interactive sessions supported by a visit to a food processing plant where HACCP has been in place. Certificates were distributed to the participants by NCHC during the valedictory function on 26th May 2006 as an objective evidence of the Training.
